WSS Is The Founding Body And Creator Of The Warlander Sport Horse
Warlander Sport Horse Registration is not given lightly - Horses must meet our high standards in conformation, type and requirements to acheive this registration so beware of people advertising that horses are 'elligible' and insist that they first register with WSS to avoid dissapointment
Requirements
The Warlander Sport Horse was created by WSS in 2019 to cater for those preferring a horse of Warlander type and temperament with more sport aptitude or a certain body type (medium to heavy) that is geared towards specific disciplines and activities (sport to working horses).
Registration to this studbook is not guaranteed so be wary of those using the name and stating that horses are elligible for registration. You can check the status of registered horses on our online genealogy at https://www.warlander-genealogy.info/
In order to qualify for registration, a horse must have a minimum of 75% of the base breeds of the Warlander horse. This means that within the 75% - both Friesian and Iberian purebreds must be fully represented. The remaining 25% can be any breed of performance or working horse (no ponies) however, as the name suggests the emphasis and the breed standard for the Warlander Sport Horse is geared towards functionality.
Warlander Sport Horses can range from medium to heavy horses as long as they carry sufficient visible characteristics of the Warlander base breeds and meet the ratio requirements.
Horses of broken colour will be accepted in this Studbook outside breeds such as Gypsy Cob, Knabstrupper, and Baroque Pinto.
The Studbook reserves the right 'not' to accept registrations if the horse does not meet the requirements of type.
Therefore, it must be concluded that only horses with valid 'Warlander Sport Horse' Registration paperwork can legitimately be called Warlander Sport Horse.
Horses registered in the Warlander Sporthorse Studbook can never be upgraded to the Warlander Studbook (which is closed to outside blood).
Warlander Sport Horse's can be assessed through our Internal Assessment System where they will be reviewed by a panel of three independent qualified judges who will assess them to the Breed Standard. As of 2024, all Warlander Sport Horse registered in the Foal Book will need to pass Assessment in order to be upgraded to the Adult book.
The Warlander Sport Horse is judged similarly to the Warlander horse in that over 80% of the Assessment score is based on conformation and type.
